Have you ever lost a role that defined your sense of identity?

Maybe through the loss of a job or grieving a loved one?

As you reel with uncertainty, it feels like the ground has come out from beneath your feet, you are no longer who you once were yet are equally not yet who you will become.

Krystin knows this feeling all too well, and in the unravelling of her life, she embraced the Camino de Santiago as a personal rite of passage to bridge the gap, honouring what once was while holding space for something to reveal itself.

Now she shares breathtaking photographs and some of her favourite experiences from her pilgrimage!  Her encounters with “the unseen”, some of the amazing people (and dogs) that she met, and the miracles that she experienced along ‘The Way’.

Let an evening of laughter, storytelling and possibility swirl about you!

(Tickets will NOT be sold at the door)

Join me for a private gathering held in Halfmoon Bay, where together we explore what we want to create in life, while we sort, clip and paste one-of-a-kind collage creations!

Would you believe that I brought a small pair of scissors, a glue stick and a travel journal on the Camino with me?  It’s true!  I did!! Making collages is one of my greatest joys and, awkward confession:  I have a bit of a mischievous lifelong reputation regarding scissors—I’ll tell you ALL about it when we’re together!

What IS the Camino?

Camino de Santiago is a network of trails from a variety of starting points that converge leading to Santiago de Compostella, specifically, the Santiago Cathedral believed to be the final resting place of St James, one of Christ’s twelve apostles.

There are:

  • Camino Francés (the French Way) from St Jean Pied de Port (800km long)
  • Camino Portugués (the Portuguese Way) usually from Porto (260km long)
  • Camino del Norte (the Northern Way) starts in Irún, Spain (825km long)
  • Camino Primitivo (the Original Way) starts in Oviedo, Spain (315 km long)
  • Via de la Plata (the Silver Way) starts in Seville, Spain (1000km long)
  • Camino Inglés (the English Way) starts in Ferrol, Spain (115 km long)

People who walk the Camino are referred to as Pilgrims as they make their way for their own individual reasons, whether that be for devotion, health, personal growth, adventure, etc.

Not identifying as Christian, let alone Catholic, I was confused why I felt such an urgent longing to make this pilgrimage.  Curious to understand why, I learned the Camino Frances is on a ley line that runs parallel beneath the Milky Way, and that Galicia, a Celtic region of Spain, is rich with mystical folklore.

The Camino pilgrimage has been documented as far back as the 9th Century, and over the centuries infrastructure such as bridges, monasteries, pilgrim hospitals and alberques (hostels) were established to protect the Pilgrims on their quest.

Today the Camino Francés and has been the subject of Paulo Coelho’s “The Pilgrimage”, Shirley MacLaine’s “The Camino:  Journey of the Spirit” and the movie “The Way”

You may be thinking, “My friend walked the Camino, what’s different about this one?”

After seven years of decluttering and downsizing, Krystin’s beloved dog died and her nest emptied, her grown children had left the Sunshine Coast.

Selling the last of her belongings, keeping only her mattress, desk and six Rubbermaid bins in a friend’s basement, she bought a one-way ticket to Paris.

Unhoused and unemployed, Krystin trusted that if she walked El Camino with an open heart while clearing her mind, she would be inspired as to what was being asked of her in the next chapter of her life.

She wasn’t disappointed!

In the early months of her sobriety, in a country where wine flows so freely, Krystin completed her Pilgrimage entirely alcohol-free, a remarkable feat unto itself given the number of times she was seated with a glass of red wine already poured, waiting for her.

Not speaking any Spanish, Krystin had never travelled by herself before, and most certainly had not left the Americas, just getting TO the starting point was a pilgrimage unto itself.

Then there was a 4500-foot ascent (that she was dreading) awaiting her on the first day of the trek.
